چکیده

IP routing requires the cooperation of a large number of Autonomous Systems (ASes) via the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). Each AS applies local policies for selecting routes and propagating routes to others, with important implications for the reliability and stability of the global system. In and of itself, BGP does not ensure that every pair of hosts can communicate. In addition, routing policies are not guaranteed be safe, and may cause persistent protocol oscillations. Backup routing is often used to increase the reliability of the network under link and router failures, at the possible expense of safety. This paper presents two models for backup routing that increase global network reliability without compromising safety. Indeed, our models are inherently safe in the sense that they remain safe under any combination of link and router failures.

The Performance Comparison of BGP-GCR+ and AODV Routing Protocols in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

This paper presents the implementation and performance evaluation of our proposed BGP-GCR+ routing architecture via simulation in ns-2. BGP-GCR+ consists of three components: (1) a two-level hierarchical, non-overlapped, one-node fault-tolerant routing algorithm for large-scale mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs), (2) an IPv6-based address stateless auto-configuration scheme, and (3) procedures at ...

Issues in the Usage of MANETs as Backup or Load-Balancing Transit Networks of the Internet

Internetworking the mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) with the Internet has been a hot issue for many years. However, most researches have been concentrated on the use of MANETs as the access networks for the Internet. This paper introduces another use of MANETs: backup or load-balancing transit networks for the Internet. Although the MANETs capacity is currently low compared with other backbone ...

Inferring Internet AS Relationships Based on BGP Routing Policies

The type of business relationships between the Internet autonomous systems (AS) determines the BGP interdomain routing. Previous works on inferring AS relationships relied on the connectivity information between ASes. In this paper we infer AS relationships by analysing the routing polices of ASes encoded in the BGP attributes Communities and the Locpref. We accumulate BGP data from RouteViews,...

Reducing Transient Disconnectivity using Anomaly-Cognizant Forwarding

It is well known that BGP convergence can cause widespread temporary losses of connectivity resulting from inconsistent routing state. In this paper, we present Anomaly-Cognizant Forwarding (ACF) a novel technique for protecting end-to-end packet delivery during periods of convergence. Our preliminary evaluation demonstrates that ACF succeeds in eliminating nearly all transient disconnection af...

Achieving Fast BGP Reroute with Traffic Engineering Using Multiple Routing Planes

In today's BGP routing architecture, traffic delivery is in general based on single path selection paradigms. The lack of path diversity hinders the support for resilience, traffic engineering and QoS provisioning across the Internet. Some recently proposed multi-plane extensions to BGP offer a promising mechanism to enable diverse inter-domain routes towards destination prefixes. Based on thes...
